Yep, the new Learning Perl is out, by Randal Schwartz, and this time co-authored by Tom Phoenix.
Is this the best book for learning perl?

I'm interested in learning perl, initially as a replacement for shell scripting (which I do a lot of at work).
I've done a bit of C and pascal in the past, but haven't really needed or wanted to program until now, and I think perl is what i'm looking for.
Now all I need is some spare time and a few really good books
;-)

This is a very good book for the first couple of months, then you will need something more serious (read: Camel Book, aka "Programming Perl").
