The Perl Conference 5 is underway, and a lot is going on. Simon Cozens wrote up Day One, which included tutorials and a perl5-porters meeting.
On Day Two, tutorials continued, and in the evening Larry Wall gave his Fifth State of the Onion speech, where he tried something new, and talked about Perl. He gave 33 55-second lightning talks in a half hour, covering a lot about what Perl 6 is going to look like (as soon as the talk is online, we will post a link).
Following that was the Quiz Show, where the require 'pants' team put up a valiant effort, but lost. Oh, and the Defending Champions won, if anyone cares.
The White Camel awards (from the Perl Mongers) were handed out to David Adler, for his tireless effort over the years with the Perl Mongers User Groups; Ask Bjørn Hansen for all his work with dev.perl.org and the perl.org mailing lists; and the YAPC::Europe organizing committee for getting YAPC up and running across the Atlantic.
The tutorials have now ended and the sessions get underway. Keep tuned for more info, and add your two cents about how the various events went.
