Damian Conway, taking the ill Larry Wall's place, opened YAPC today with an intro of Perl 6. Check out the PDF of a previous version of the talk.
Damian mentioned the new variable syntax (@hash{LIST} will be %hash{LIST}), and to the boos and hisses, said "You are gonna love this." He noted he hated it too at first, but has grown to love it dearly. Not much new information about Perl 6 was introduced. He will talk more about Perl 6, with Nat Torkington, at a later session.
Damian said he expected the Perl 6 design to be done by the end of 2001, with an alpha Mayish 2002, and a release Julyish 2002 (give or take six months (cumulatively?) on each).

Damian's going to give the three-hour version of his perl6 talk for the Toronto perlmongers, and that'll also be MP3ed. He'll put the slides up after that, I imagine. Right now he's still fixing the typos, writing more slides, and adding more bad jokes

Will the "Life, the Universe and Everything" talk find its way online sometime soon? I can't seem to convince my wife that the GOL, Klingon and Maxwell's demon all fit together somehow and she figures that this is all just a hallucination of some kind.

Not until after TPC at the earliest. I generally don't publish this sort of talk at all, since it spoils the effect if the content, build-up, denouement, etc. are widely known beforehand.
