Yet Another SOAP Article, but this is the first of a two parter that I wrote for IBM. It features SOAP::Lite and a small Zorknapp application; what's not to love?

Is Dave Winer really one of the primary architects of SOAP? I know _he_ says he is, but from what I can tell, his primary involvement in SOAP is essentially that SOAP is similar to XML-RPC.

Sounds like you're volunteering to do some undercover reporting, Snoop Pudgy Pudge. :-)

If you were to ask Dave Winer if he invented the Macintosh, the Internet, or Hypertext, he'd probably say "Yes, and it was originally influenced by MORE". :-)

However, Don Box says that XML-RPC was an early-release subset of SOAP.

" Unwilling to let the slow process of getting MS to act on SOAP beyond a press release, Dave Winer went out on his own and shipped the XML-RPC specification based on subsetting the original SOAP type system. "

Don makes it sound like Dave was a participant in the SOAP design and specification, and was a constant downward pressure on SOAP. :-)
