Gurusamy Sarathy has released version 5.6.1 of perl. It is available on a CPAN mirror near you. Check out the full distribution or the patch. Also please read the announcement.
Note that in the announcement Sarathy says there will be a 5.6.2 release. Also stay tuned for the 5.7.1 release (development release for 5.8.0), which is on its way soon.
what's with the 5.6.2

The mention of 5.6.2 in the announcement has no special significance other than the intent to do a 5.6.2 release. Eventually. Maybe in another couple of years or so.

You (normally) need intent before you can have action, so that's something!
:-) OTOH, if Jarkko keeps moving along on 5.7 and there is no significant breakage from 5.6->5.8, there may be no reason for 5.6.2. Or maybe it would be like a 5.004_05 release, for people who really want it.
