MacPerl author Matthias Neeracher has retired as maintainer of MacPerl, handing the reigns over to Chris Nandor. Neeracher will still maintain GUSI (the Mac POSIX library used by MacPerl) and work on many of the Mac OS toolbox modules. Nandor will handle the core, with help from Neeracher and any other interested parties; now that MacPerl can be built with free compilers, and the source is all available on SourceForge, it will be easier for others to get involved.
Neeracher has a MacPerl application and an MPW tool based on perl 5.6.0 building and running. Nandor is working on cleaning up the source a bit so it will build smoothly for others. From there, he will work toward a public alpha release.
