Character Code Tutorial

Jarkko posted the URL to a tutorial on character codes over on the p5p list. This tutorial from Jukka Korpela should hopefully help the majority of us that confuse a lot of these issues, which is especially relevant with perl 5.6's Unicode support.

I've read it

Wow. This is good.

However, I don't see *any* reference in it to Perl, anywhere. Saying this tutorial is relevant because of Perl 5.6's built-in support for Unicode, is misleading, to say the least.

While we're on it, may I point to my other favourite site on this subject: < http://www.czyborra.com/ >.

Now there are two.

I thought I made it clear that this tutorial was about character code issues, not about Perl, though I think I see how you could have thought otherwise. I did not mean to say that this tutorial is specifically relevant to Perl, but that these issues are generally, and increasingly, relevant to Perl.

As you know very well, Bart, many people get confused about these issues, and this confusion can only only increase as Unicode becomes more prevalent. So I posted it in the hopes that people who are confused about these issues, and poised to get even more confused, can get some good information to alleviate some of that confusion. That's all I meant.
