The Dam-I-athon Hath Endeth!

Tim Maher, SPUG Leader writes: The Dam-I-athon, a fun-filled yet serious 8-day Seattle series of social and educational events, centered around Aussie Perl Guru Dr. Damian Conway, ended July 7th.

Activities included several group dinners, a group Fireworks Viewing/Liver-Rattling event at Ground-Zero in Lake Union, inspirational SPUG (Seattle Perl User's Group) and E-SPUG (Eastside-SPUG) talks, each attended by approx. 50 deranged Perl fanatics, and deliriously informative full-day seminars on the topics of Advanced OOP and Text Parsing.

I know from my personal experience and from attendee testimonials that Damian inspired, informed, and entertained Perl fans to a degree far beyond expectation; in fact, some have even suggested that he has displaced Cable-TV Celebrity Steve "The Crocodile Hunter" Irwin in the minds of many as the new Australian Cultural Ambassador ...

Damian is scheduled for 5 talks at The Perl Conference, and his uniquely witty yet profound, erudite yet campy delivery is a joy to experience (think: Donald Knuth meets Monty Python). You surely won't want to miss his talk on Quantum Superpositions and the First Virtue in which he provides a hilarious review of the zany notions of Quantum Physics, and then shows how a Perl implementation of them facilitates exceptionally Lazy solutions to formerly intractable problems.

My advice to TPC attendees is: You don't want to miss this talk!

It made my head hurt at yapc, so I have to look at it now... and to amaze and astound a C++ programmer I know. ;>
