Ziggy returns for another report:
Well, after almost two years of planning, the day has finally arrived. It's time to wait on DisneyWorld-length lines to board the ship and set sail. We left at 5pm PDT (after altogether too many blasts from the ship's bellowing horn) and started to party, er, monger, er, network, er, have fun.
Around 7pm or so, we all started to gather in the Crow's Nest bar on the lido deck (imagine Ten-Forward without Whoopi Goldberg, but with a lot of geeks very happily not wearing StarTrek jumpsuits).
After the cocktail party, we adjourned to the dining room for a splendid dinner. There were a few hiccups with the seating arrangements last minute, but serendipity prevailed. Instead of sitting with my fellow Philly Perl Mongers, I met a wonderful couple from Portugal, and pretty soon we started talking about what all geeks talk about after an hour or two: Blade Runner, where to get good bandwidth and ISP buyouts.
Tonight is a night to get acquainted with the boat, and prepare for tomorrow, when the seminars start.
Until next time, Z.
